Khaleda Zia is the president of BNP. She has been the Prime Minister of Bangladesh twice.
The freeze on the bank account of opposition leader and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia in Bangladesh has been lifted. The National Board of Revenue (NBR) on Monday (August 19) decided to unfreeze Zia’s bank account. Her bank accounts have been frozen for 17 years. It is not known when the account will be unfrozen.
The Central Intelligence Cell of the NBR had ordered the freezing of Khaleda Zia’s accounts in August 2007. Since then her accounts are blocked. The BNP has demanded the opening of her accounts several times. This decision has been taken after Sheikh Hasina was ousted from power.
According to the Bengali newspaper Daily Star, the NBR said that there is no investigation case against Khaleda Zia, so banks have been instructed to unfreeze all her accounts. Earlier, Khaleda was released from jail after Hasina left the country on August 5. She was sentenced to 17 years in prison in a corruption case in 2018.
The complaint accuses Sheikh Hasina and several others of genocide and crimes against humanity.
Case filed against Sheikh Hasina in International Crimes Tribunal
Sheikh Hasina’s troubles are increasing. On Monday, a complaint of genocide and crimes against humanity was filed in the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) of Bangladesh against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her 26 ministers.
The complainant’s name is Mohammad Abul Hasan. Abul Hasan’s son Shahriar Hasan Alvi was killed during the student movements. The interim government of Bangladesh has said that it will file a case against Hasina’s government for the killings during the student movement.
3 cases registered against Haseena in 2 days, including murder and kidnapping
Three cases have been filed against Sheikh Hasina in two days. Earlier, a murder case was filed against Hasina on 13 August. A shopkeeper Abu Sayed was killed in police firing on 19 July during the anti-reservation agitation. In this, six more people along with Hasina were made accused.
A kidnapping case was registered against Hasina on Wednesday. Supreme Court lawyer Sohail Rana said that in 2015, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) soldiers kidnapped her at the behest of Hasina. Five other people along with Hasina were made accused in this case.
