Yunus government of Bangladesh has recalled its 2 diplomats from Kolkata and Tripura. On December 2, there was intrusion into the Bangladeshi High Commission in Agartala. There were protests outside the Deputy High Commission in Kolkata also.
Due to these incidents, the interim government of Bangladesh had decided to recall the diplomats on 3 December. However, this information has now come to light.
Acting Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Kolkata, Mohammad Ashrafur Rahman has reached Dhaka. He also met Foreign Advisor of Bangladeshi Government Tauheed Hussain.
Ashrafur Rehman informed Tauheed about the attack in Agartala and the latest situation. Bangladeshi Assistant High Commissioner of Tripura Arif Mohammad has not reached Dhaka at present.
On the other hand, protests are also taking place in Bangladesh in response to the Agartala-Kolkata incident. On Thursday, Bangladeshi leaders appealed to boycott Indian products by burning Indian sarees in Dhaka.
Both diplomats will report on the protests taking place in India.
Bangladesh’s Foreign Ministry alleges that supporters of Indian Hindutva organizations had insulted the Bangladeshi flag at the High Commission in Agartala on December 2. They also attacked the premises. On December 3, Bangladesh closed the High Commission.
The Bangladesh government has not yet told when the two diplomats will be sent back to India. No information has been given yet regarding reopening of Agartala High Commission. According to media reports, both the diplomats will present a report on the status of protests against Bangladesh in India.
The rally was against the arrest of Chinmay Prabhu
On December 2, many people took out a rally around the Bangladeshi mission to protest against the arrest of Chinmoy Prabhu, former head of Bangladesh ISKCON. Meanwhile, more than 50 protesters had entered the premises of Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala.
Three sub-inspectors were suspended in the case. A DSP has been asked to report to the police headquarters for dereliction of duty. The Indian Foreign Ministry also condemned this intrusion. The ministry had said – The incident of infiltration is very regrettable.
