Houses of Hindu families have been set on fire in Chittagong district of Bangladesh. The houses of two Hindu families were set on fire in West Sultanpur village around 3:45 am on Monday. It is alleged that the attackers had locked the doors of the houses from outside.
According to local people, a total of seven rooms in two houses were burnt to ashes. These houses belonged to Sukha Shil (works in Dubai) and daily wage laborer Anil Shil. Eight people were present in the house at the time of the incident. Everyone had gone to sleep after having dinner, when suddenly a fire broke out.
When the family members tried to go out, they found that the doors were locked from outside. To save his life, he somehow managed to get out by cutting the bamboo and tin walls.

A woman cried bitterly after her house burnt down.
Passport and household items burnt in fire
Anil Shill’s son Mithun Shill told that he had come home from Dubai three months ago for marriage. His passport, household items and about 80-90 thousand taka in cash were burnt in the fire. Mithun said, “Both the doors were locked from outside, so everyone tried to get out by cutting the walls.”
Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) S.M. Rahatul Islam and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Ongching Marama took stock of the damage and assured help. The affected families were given 25 kg rice, 5,000 taka in cash and blankets.
Police is busy identifying the accused. Cases have been registered against unknown people, but no one has been arrested so far.
Such incidents are happening continuously in this area in recent times. A few days ago, Hindu houses were similarly targeted in Dheyupara village and before that in Kutiya Baruipara village also.
