Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) has given an ultimatum to Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Director M Nazmul Islam that if he does not resign from his post by 1 pm on Thursday, the players will boycott all formats of cricket.

The ultimatum is that he has to step down before the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) match, which starts at 1 pm local time.

However, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has expressed regret over the controversial comments of director M Nazmul Islam. The board said in a statement that these comments do not reflect the official stand of the board.

The board has warned of disciplinary action for behavior that disrespects players or harms the reputation of Bangladesh cricket.

Nazmul had called Tamim an Indian agent

When Iqbal had called for talks to resolve the current strain in cricket relations between the two countries due to the release of Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman from the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) team for the Indian Premier League (IPL), Nazmul had ridiculed him by calling him an Indian agent.

Know what is Mustafizur and IPL controversy

On December 16, in the IPL mini auction, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bought Bangladeshi bowler Mustafizur Rahman for Rs 9.20 crore. After this, Mustafizur started being opposed in India due to the killing of Hindus in Bangladesh. So far 8 Hindus have been murdered there. Later BCCI did not allow Mustafizur to play IPL and on January 3, KKR released him.

It is not certain that Bangladesh will come to India.

It is not confirmed yet for Bangladesh to come to India for T20 WC matches, as BCB has requested the International Cricket Council (ICC) to move their matches out of India keeping in mind the safety concerns of the players.

However, ICC had rejected BCB’s demand to change the venue.

The issue arose when the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) directed Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to release pacer Mustafizur from their IPL 2026 squad. BCCI has taken this step in protest against the atrocities being committed against Hindus in Bangladesh.
