In the first supplementary list of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in West Bengal, 13 lakh names have been removed from the voter list. With this, the total number of removed voters in the state has reached around 76 lakh. According to an Election Commission official, out of about 60 lakh voters kept in ‘under adjudication’, names of 32 lakh have been changed. Of these, about 40% have been removed from the voter list. At the same time, about 28 lakh cases are still pending, on which the decision is yet to be taken. These cases are being heard by 705 judicial officers posted in the state. 76 lakh names removed so far after SIR. During the enumeration phase of SIR, 58 lakh names were removed in December, due to which the total number of voters reduced from 7.66 crore to 7.08 crore. After this, in the voter list released on February 28, this number came down to 7,04,59,284 (about 7.04 crores). More than 60 lakh names were kept in this list under adjudication. Under Adjudication were those voters whose documents or eligibility were in doubt. The first supplementary list was released at midnight. The Election Commission had released the first supplementary list of under adjudication voters late on Monday night. In which about 10 lakh names were uploaded on the website. However, it was not made clear how many names were removed from this list or how many cases were settled. According to officials, only those names were included in the list in cases where e-sign authentication was completed. About 29 lakh cases were processed, but due to technical reasons all the names could not be released simultaneously. The remaining names are being released in a phased manner. Now a new supplementary list will be released every Friday. Under Adjudication were those voters whose documents or eligibility were in doubt.
