- West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026 Chief Secretary Principal Home Secretary Changed

Before the assembly elections in West Bengal, the Election Commission (EC) has made a major administrative reshuffle. The Commission has removed State Chief Secretary Nandini Chakraborty from the post. In his place, 1993 batch IAS officer Dushyant Nariyala has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary.
Also, in place of State Home Secretary Jagdish Prasad Meena, 1997 batch IAS officer Sanghamitra Ghosh has been asked to be appointed as Home Secretary.
According to the order of the Election Commission, this instruction will come into effect with immediate effect. The report of new officers assuming charge will have to be sent to the Commission by 3 pm on Monday.
The order states that the officers who have been transferred will not be posted on any election-related post until the election process is completed.
The Election Commission on Sunday announced the dates for the state assembly elections. Voting will be held on 294 seats of Bengal in two phases on 23rd and 29th April.
EC said- decision taken after reviewing election preparations
The Election Commission said in the order that after the announcement of assembly elections in West Bengal, it is continuously reviewing the administrative preparations. This decision has been taken in this sequence. The Commission says that necessary administrative changes are being made to make the election process fair and transparent.
