The Home Ministry released the figures on Monday and said that out of a total of 577 seats, the leftist New Popular Front (NFP) alliance got 182 seats. The Renaissance Party was in second place. It got 163 seats. At the same time, the right-wing National Rally (NR) alliance managed to get 143 seats.

To get a majority in the National Assembly, any party needs to win 289 seats. In such a situation, no party has a majority now. Experts have predicted that now the parties will try to get a majority with the help of alliance.

Taking responsibility for the defeat, Prime Minister Gabriel Attal said on Sunday that he would submit his resignation to President Macron on Monday. Apart from this, he will remain the Prime Minister until a new Prime Minister is appointed.

Violence broke out after the results
Violence broke out after the initial results of the parliamentary elections. People of the right-wing National Rally (NR) came out on the streets and started protesting. During this, the police fired tear gas shells on the people in central Paris, in which many people were injured.

Actually, before this, elections were held on 30 June. In this, the right-wing party National Rally (NR) got the highest 35.15% votes, after which it was estimated that the party could get 230-280 seats, but today’s results showed the opposite.

On Sunday night, people set vehicles on fire in central Paris to protest the results.

President Macron had dissolved the parliament prematurely
The term of the French Parliament was to end in 2027, but due to a big defeat in the European Union, President Macron dissolved the Parliament prematurely this month. In fact, the Macron government was running on the basis of a coalition. His coalition had only 250 seats and every time he had to garner support from other parties to pass a law.

Now, even after the defeat on Sunday, Macron will have to seek support from other parties for any new bill.

Macron’s Renaissance Party has lost the National Assembly elections, but Macron will remain in office. Macron has already said that no matter who wins, he will not resign from the post of President. In fact, after the defeat in the European Union elections, if Macron’s party loses in the Parliament as well, then there may be pressure on him to leave the post of President. Therefore, Macron has already made it clear that he will not leave his post.

In France, the elections for the President and the National Assembly are held separately. In such a situation, even if a party does not have a majority in the Parliament, the leader of that party can still win the presidential election. The same thing happened with Emmanuel Macron in the 2022 elections. He won the presidential election, but his coalition did not get a majority in the National Assembly.

Like India, France also has two houses of Parliament. The upper house of the Parliament is called the Senate and the lower house is called the National Assembly. Members of the National Assembly are elected by the general public, while members of the Senate are elected by the members of the National Assembly and officials together.
