The Supreme Court will hear the SIR on Monday before the West Bengal Assembly elections. The bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi will hear the case. On April 10, the Supreme Court had said that it would simultaneously hear new petitions against the freezing of voter lists.
During this time, the Supreme Court will also hear the case related to the gherao of seven judicial officers during the SIR process in Malda district. The Election Commission had released the SIR list for Bengal on April 9. After this, 91 lakh names were removed from the voter list.
11.85% names removed in Bengal
The total voters in West Bengal in October 2025 were 7.66 crore. Of these, 90.83 lakh names have been removed so far. Approximately 11.85% voters were reduced. That means now there are 6.76 crore voters in the state.
The Election Commission has not released the final figures. Apart from this, out of 60.06 lakh voters who came under investigation, names of 27.16 lakh were removed. Names were also removed on a large scale in the districts bordering Bangladesh. In North 24 Parganas, 3.25 lakh names out of 5.91 lakh were removed. At the same time, out of 8.28 lakh, 2.39 lakh names were removed.
Differences between Election Commission and TMC

On April 8, a TMC delegation led by MP Derek O’Brien had reached Delhi to meet the Election Commission. But after the meeting, Derek said that we had asked for time on the SIR issue, but we were treated poorly during the meeting. Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) chased us away in just 5 minutes
According to Election Commission sources, Derek O’Brien prevented and threatened the CEC from speaking. He was not listening to anything.
SIR in 12 states-UT, names of 6.08 crore people deleted
The final voter list was released in Uttar Pradesh on Friday under the second phase of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the Election Commission. After its completion, a total of 6.08 crore names have been reduced in the voter lists of 9 states and 3 union territories.
Before the launch of SIR on October 27 last year, the total voters in 12 states and union territories were around 51 crore. After the final list this number came down to 44.92 crores.
In the second phase of SIR, the final voter list of Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Kerala, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Goa including Puducherry, Andaman-Nicobar and Lakshadweep has been published.
In Uttar Pradesh, the number of voters in the final list of SIR has decreased by 13% to 13.39 crore. That means 2.04 crore names have been deleted, while in West Bengal also about 91 lakh names have been deleted.
