The delegation of Kerala MPs led by Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi met Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday. During the meeting, a demand was made by the Center to release a fund of Rs 2 thousand crore for the rehabilitation of the people affected by the landslide in Wayanad.

After this meeting which lasted for 10 minutes in Parliament House, Priyanka told that she told Shah – keeping politics aside, relief should be provided to the people of Wayanad. PM also went to Wayanad, but he did nothing.

Priyanka said- We have informed the Home Minister about the situation in Wayanad. The people there are completely ruined. He has no support system left.

People’s homes, businesses, schools, everything has been washed away. As much help as possible should be provided to the people there. Everything is ruined for the affected people in Wayanad. In such a situation, if the central government does not do anything then what can we do?

In fact, landslides occurred in Mundakkai, Churalmala, Attamala and Noolpuzha villages in Wayanad between 2 am and 4 am on the night of 29 July. More than 400 people died in this.

  4. The affected people of Wayanad are looking towards the Central Government with great hope. They want their shattered lives to get back on track.
  5. People affected by landslides in Wayanad need immediate rehabilitation. The victims of this tragedy want to resume their lives with dignity.

The central government has already refused to declare the Wayanad landslide a national disaster. In fact, after the landslide, in August, the state government had written a letter to Prime Minister Modi demanding that the Wayanad landslide be declared a national disaster.

On November 10, Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai wrote a letter to the Kerala government. In this he had said that under the existing guidelines of SDRF-NDRF, there is no provision to declare any disaster as a national disaster.
