Peshawar Capital City Police Officer Dr. Mian Saeed Ahmed told the media that the Frontier Corps (FC) headquarters was attacked. Our forces are responding and the entire area has been surrounded.

A suicide bomber blew himself up at the gate of the FC headquarters. After the blast, sounds of firing were also heard. Security forces have killed two attackers and the area has been sealed.

For some time now, Pakistan has been witnessing a sharp increase in terrorist incidents, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. The situation has worsened after TTP ended the ceasefire with the government in November 2022.

Also in September, there was an attempt to attack the FC headquarters in Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in which six soldiers were martyred and five terrorists were killed.

Pakistan blamed TTP for the attack

Pakistan Army has alleged that Indian proxy Fitna-ul-Khawarij is responsible for this attack. This term is used for the fighters of Pakistan Taliban TTP.

FC is a civil military force of Pakistan, whose headquarters is located in a congested area and close to the military cantonment.

An officer told the media that the army and police have cordoned off the area and are handling the situation as we suspect that there are some attackers inside the headquarters.

Several videos surfaced on social media soon after the attack, claiming that explosions were heard at FC Chowk Main Sadar.

Pakistan has witnessed a sharp increase in terrorist incidents in recent months, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Also in September, there was an attempted attack on the FC headquarters in Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in which six soldiers were killed and five attackers died.

Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP): Insurgent organization of Pakistan

  • After the Afghan Taliban came to power in 2021, Pakistan launched attacks in Afghanistan targeting TTP.
  • TTP exploits the grievances of the Pashtun community such as poverty, unemployment and government neglect.

TTP intensified attacks on Pakistan from 2022

Pakistan often alleges that the Pakistani Taliban uses the land of Afghanistan to carry out terrorist attacks on it. However, Afghanistan has been rejecting these allegations of Pakistan.

With the return of Taliban in Afghanistan in 2021, Pakistani Taliban (TTP) has strengthened. TTP had unilaterally ended the ceasefire with Pakistan in November 2022. After this he has intensified the attacks on Pakistan.

Pakistan ranks second in Global Terrorism Index

According to the Global Terrorism Index 2025, Pakistan has become the second most terrorism affected country in the world after Burkina Faso, whereas in 2024 it was at the fourth position.

  • TTP attacks have increased by 90%.
  • There has been a 60% increase in attacks by Baloch Army (BLA).
  • Islamic State-Khorasan (IS-K) has now started targeting Pakistani cities as well.

According to the report, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan are the most terror affected areas of Pakistan. 90% of the total terrorist incidents across the country took place in this area.

In the report, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan was described as the most dangerous terrorist organization of Pakistan for the second consecutive year. In 2024, this group carried out 482 attacks, which resulted in 558 deaths, which is 91% more than in 2023.
