Imran, who is lodged in Rawalpindi jail, said that he will keep fighting for freedom

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday demanded fresh elections in the country. According to Pakistan’s news channel Geo News, Imran said that the whole country knows that the 2024 elections were the biggest fraud in the history of Pakistan. If the country has to be saved, then elections will have to be held again.

He wrote in a post that I have faith in God. I will keep fighting for freedom. I have been in jail for a year and will never bow down to these tyrants.

Apart from this, Imran said that if the crime against me in jail does not reduce, then I will go on a hunger strike. If there is a hunger strike in jail, then this strike will happen in every city of Pakistan.

Imran is in jail since August last year
Imran Khan was arrested in the Toshakhana case in August 2023. However, the court acquitted him on 3 July. But even after this, he is still in jail. In fact, just a few days before the elections held in Pakistan in February this year, Imran was sentenced to a total of 31 years in 3 cases.

what is toshakhana case

  • Last year, the then government (the ruling Pakistani Democratic Movement or PDM) had raised the Toshakhana gift case before the Election Commission. It was said that Imran had sold the gifts received from various countries during his tenure. Imran had told the Election Commission that he had bought all these gifts from Toshakhana for Rs 2.15 crore and got Rs 5.8 crore after selling them. Later it was revealed that this amount was more than 20 crores.
  • About three years ago, a Pakistani man named Abrar Khalid had filed a petition in the Information Commission. He said that information about the gifts received by Imran from other countries should be given. The answer was that information about the gifts cannot be given. Khalid also turned out to be stubborn. He filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court.
  • The Islamabad High Court had asked Imran- Why don’t you give information about the gifts? To this, Khan’s lawyer replied- This is a threat to the safety of the country. Relations with other countries can be spoiled. Therefore, we cannot give information to the public about the gifts received from other countries.

what are the rules

  • According to Pakistani journalist Alia Shah, in Pakistan, information about gifts received by the Prime Minister, President or other persons holding important posts has to be given to the National Archives. These have to be deposited in the Toshakhana. If the gift is worth 10 thousand Pakistani rupees, then the person concerned can keep it without paying any money.
  • If the estimated price of the gift is more than 10 thousand, then the gift can be kept by paying 20% of the price. If the gift is worth more than 4 lakhs, then only the Wazir-e-Azam (Prime Minister) or Sadar-e-Riyasat (President) can buy it. If no one buys it, then an auction takes place.
  • Imran played a trick here too. The gift of 2 crores was shown as 5 lakhs at some places and 7 lakhs at other places. They were bought at this price and then sold at many times more than the original price. This work was done by Khan’s minister Zulfi Bukhari and Bushra Bibi’s friend Farah Khan alias Farah Gogi.
  • Another special thing is that Farah Gogi had fled from Pakistan in a private jet and reached Dubai on the same day (April 10, 2022) when Imran Khan’s government fell.
