After the meeting, Meloni said, “Whenever laws are broken in the world, a situation of chaos and tension arises. If this crisis is not averted, it will spread further. I told the same thing to the Chinese leaders. That is why I think that countries like India and China can prove to be important in ending the Ukraine war.”

Putin had said at the Eastern Economic Summit that India, China or Brazil can mediate to stop the war.

During a conversation at the Eastern Economic Forum (EEZ) in the Russian city of Vladivostok, Putin had said that when the war started in 2022, Turkey had tried to broker a compromise between the two countries.

However, those conditions were never implemented. The previous attempt can now be used as a basis to start fresh talks.

This is the first time since the Second World War that a foreign power has occupied Russian soil. Ukraine occupied 1263 square km of Russian territory in two weeks. Ukraine claims that it has occupied more land in 2 weeks than Russia occupied in 8 months of 2024.
