Voting for assembly elections will be held today in Puducherry, Kerala and Assam. Chief Electoral Officer P. Jawahar said on Wednesday that about 9.50 lakh voters will decide the fate of 294 candidates in the assembly elections in Puducherry on April 9. All preparations have been completed for the peaceful and smooth conduct of the elections.

Voting will start at 7 am in Puducherry and its areas Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam. Including all these areas there are a total of 30 assembly seats.

Jawahar informed that a total of 1,099 polling stations have been set up in the Union Territory, out of which 209 have been identified as sensitive.

P. Jawahar said that 30 polling stations will be operated entirely by women employees, while 15 booths will be operated by youth officers. Apart from this, two polling stations will be operated by disabled employees. He said that this time a total of 24,919 new voters have joined.

Apart from this, the Chief Electoral Officer also said that volunteers will be deployed at the booths to assist senior citizens and disabled voters, who will help in bringing them to the polling station and returning them home safely. Wheel chair facility will also be available.

More than 1.5 lakh security personnel deployed for Assam elections

Election preparations have been completed in Assam also. Voting will take place here on Thursday 9 April. The fate of 722 candidates hoping to make it to the 126-member assembly will be decided in this election. More than 1.5 lakh security personnel have been deployed here for security.

According to officials, a total of 31,940 polling stations have been set up in 35 districts for voting to be held in one phase. Micro-observers have also been deployed at sensitive polling stations. Counting of votes will take place on May 4.

Chief Electoral Officer Anurag Goyal said that most of the personnel left for the polling stations on Wednesday morning itself, while the personnel deployed in remote areas were sent on Tuesday itself.

2.71 crore voters in Kerala

All preparations have been completed for the assembly elections to be held in Kerala on Thursday. 2.71 crore voters will be able to exercise their franchise in this election. This contest will be a test of LDF’s attempt to come to power for the third consecutive time, opposition UDF’s hopes of comeback and NDA’s attempt to open its account in the state.

After vigorous campaigning that lasted for about a month, voting will be held in a single phase in the state. Voting will be held from 7 am to 6 pm on all 140 assembly seats, where a total of 883 candidates are in the fray.

According to Election Commission data, the total voters here include 1.32 crore men, 1.39 crore women and 273 transgender voters. Apart from this, more than 2.42 lakh migrant voters are also part of this election.
