Amidst the increasing tension between Pakistan and Afghanistan, the Pakistan Army has made serious allegations that the Afghan Taliban is directly helping terrorists and smugglers infiltrating the border. While talking to journalists, Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhary, head of Pakistan Army’s media wing ISPR, said that firing is done on Pakistani posts from the Afghanistan side, so that the terrorists can get cover to cross the border.
According to General Chaudhary, “The border is the responsibility of both the countries, but the posts on the other side start firing first. In this chaos, the vehicles of terrorists and smugglers pass from below.” He claimed that some attacks are so coordinated that the posts are first fired upon and infiltration is carried out during that time.
When asked how the movement of terrorists and illegal vehicles is possible despite the deployment of Army and Frontier Corps on the border, the ISPR chief said that posts have been made at a distance of every 15–25 km on the 2,500 km long border. He said, “Even the most developed countries of the world cannot completely seal their borders, as has been seen in the case of America and Mexico.”
