Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu appeared in court on Tuesday in a criminal case. According to BBC, he stood in the dock and testified in the ongoing case against him. This is the first time in Israel’s history that a prime minister has testified in a criminal trial.

As soon as he started testifying, Netanyahu told the judges sitting in the court. ‘Hello’ Said. In response to this, a judge said that he has the special right to give testimony sitting or standing as per his wish.

After this, Netanyahu chose to stand in court and testify. He completely rejected all the allegations against him. Netanyahu said that he had been waiting for this moment for 8 years to tell the truth. Since he is also a Prime Minister and is leading the country despite the war on 7 fronts. That they can even indulge in corruption is beyond comprehension.

Netanyahu said-

I am not living a good life. I have to work 17-18 hours. I can’t even eat lunch properly. One has to work till late night and gets a chance to sleep around 2 o’clock. I don’t have any time to meet my family or children.

I hate champagne. I sometimes smoke a cigar but I am not able to smoke it completely because I do not have that much time as I am constantly busy in meetings and briefings. It is also absurd to say that my wife and mother-in-law live a good life.

Decision not expected till 2026

The hearing in this case related to the Prime Minister is expected to continue. In all these cases 140 people have been called for testimony. The witnesses include some of Netanyahu’s confidants who turned against him. These include former Prime Minister Yair Lapid and many media personalities. The lawyers have presented many evidences including recordings, police documents and text messages.

At present, a decision in this matter is not expected till at least 2026. After this, Netanyahu can also appeal to the Supreme Court.

The Israeli PM had sought to delay the proceedings several times citing Gaza War and security concerns. Although the court had ordered to start it.

Keeping in view the security of the PM, the court proceedings were shifted to the underground chamber of the capital Tel Aviv. This court is considered as safe as a bomb shelter.

The hearing of this case may intensify in the coming week. Last week, the court said that Netanyahu would have to appear in court twice this week and then three times a week.

When Netanyahu was testifying, people supporting and opposing Netanyahu were present outside the court. People were demanding the return of the hostages held in Hamas captivity. Some people were blaming Netanyahu for waging war.

Hadas Calderon, a woman protesting against Prime Minister Netanyahu, said that last year her two children were released by Hamas under the ceasefire agreement, but her husband Ofer is still in captivity of Hamas. PM is not doing anything for his release. Netanyahu is more busy hiding his sins than taking care of the people of the country. They don’t care about the hostages.
