- 63 Missing After Landslide Sweeps Two Buses Into Trishuli River In Nepal, Kathmandu Bharatpur Flights Cancelled

Amid heavy rains in Nepal, two buses fell into the Trishuli river due to a landslide on a highway on Friday morning. According to officials present at the spot, a total of 63 people, including drivers, were travelling in both the buses.
About 60 people are missing after the accident. According to Nepali media house Kathmandu Post, the death of a bus driver has been confirmed. While 2 people saved their lives by jumping from the bus.
The accident took place at around 3:30 am on the Madan-Ashri Highway in Central Nepal. Search and rescue operations are facing difficulties due to continuous rain and strong flow of water.
Nepal PM expressed grief over the accident
Chitwan Chief District Officer Indradev Yadav told news agency ANI over the phone that one of the buses that fell into the river due to the landslide was going to Kathmandu and it had 24 people on board while the other bus had 41 people travelling in it.
Nepal’s Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has expressed grief over the accident. He wrote on social media, ‘I am deeply saddened by the reports of about five dozen passengers missing after the bus was swept away by a landslide at Narayangarh-Muglin Road Station. I direct all government agencies to search for the passengers and rescue them safely.’

60 people died in 7 days due to weather
Due to rain and bad weather in Nepal, all flights from Kathmandu to Bharatpur have been cancelled till further orders. Meanwhile, 62 people have died in the last 7 days. While more than 90 people have been injured.
Of these, 34 people died in landslides while 28 people were swept away by flood waters. According to officials, there are flood-like conditions in many areas of Nepal due to heavy rains. 121 houses were swept away by the floods and 82 were badly damaged.

More than 2 thousand people were buried in a landslide that occurred in Kaoklam village in Papua New Guinea last month. Landslides occurred there for 4 consecutive days.
