Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gave the United Nations General Assembly in New York (To her ) Choose a long air route to join. He covered an extra distance of 600km. The distance from Tel Aviv to New York is about 9 thousand km.

According to media reports, Netanyahu did this to avoid the arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC). According to ABC News, Netanyahu took 2 hours of extra time from Tel Aviv to New York.
In general, it takes 10 to 11 hours to move from Tel Aviv to New York, while Netanyahu arrived in 13 hours. Netanyahu will address the United Nations General Assembly on Friday i.e. Friday and will meet US President Donald Trump next week.
ICC continues arrest warrant against Netanyahu
ICC issued an arrest warrant against Netanyahu in 2024. He was accused of promoting war in Gaza and using starvation as a weapon of war.
Because of this, he tried to avoid the airspace of countries in Europe who follow the ICC rules. These countries include France, Spain, Portugal, Ireland and United Kingdom.
If Netanyahu’s aircraft landed in these countries, the governments there would be arrested and forced to hand over the ICC in Hague (Netherlands).
The Israeli government did not give any official reason to choose this path, but the media claims that the move was taken to avoid ICC warrant.
During this visit, no journalist also went with Netanyahu due to security reasons. However, earlier he adopted a direct route during a visit to America in July.
Netanyahu met Serbian President Alexander Wusik on 26 September.
France permission, yet the path changed
The French news agency AFP quoted a diplomatic formula as saying that France had allowed Netanyahu flight to use its airspace.
Despite this, his flight did not fly over France. It is believed that the flight plan was changed on the way.
According to the report of ‘The Yerusalam Post’, some journalists and employees traveling with Netanyahu were not given a place in the aircraft due to this long route. His team had to shorten to meet the need for more fuel.
Recent months have increased tension in relationships between Israel and France. France has taken several steps towards preventing violence in Gaza and recognizing Palestine as an independent state.
On the other hand, Netanyahu strongly opposed the formation of the Palestinian state and keeps it the main issue of his political career.
Netanyahu has chosen long routes before
This is not the first time Netanyahu has taken such precautions. Even in July 2024, one of his flights adopted a long way to escape from Europe’s airspace. The United Nations Special Representative Franceska Albanes criticized Italy, France and Greece.
He had said that these countries made a mistake by giving safe way to the ICC accused. In addition, Netanyahu’s flight also took care to avoid emergency landing in Europe during Netanyahu’s Washington DC visit in February 2024.
