There has been a new twist in the matter of mass burial. The main object of this case was arrested on Saturday for giving false information to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Karnataka Police. Sources have confirmed this to Aaj Tak.
The arrested person has been a former cleaning worker in the Dharmasthal temple administration. He claimed that he had buried 70–80 bodies in many places. He was kept in custody overnight for questioning and was arrested after questioning till 6 am today.
Human skull turned out to be fake
According to police sources, during the investigation, it was found that the skull shown before the whistleblower was fake. After this, he was arrested on charges of presenting false testimony and wrong evidence. Police said that the accused will be produced before the magistrate this evening. Before that, he has been taken to the hospital to get his medical checkup.
Skeleton remains found in just one place in 15
He had described the SIT 15 places, where he claimed to bury many women and children between 1998 and 2014. But only one of these places (spot number 6) has found the remains of a male skeleton.
Earlier, when Aaj Tak had asked the whistleblower why human remains have been found from only one place, he said that some tombs must have been erased due to erosion, edge of the forest and construction works.
Trying to tarnish the image of the temple?
He also claimed that the bodies were buried in broad daylight and many locals were present at that time, but no one showed courage to stop or question. He dismissed the allegations of working with the intention of tarnishing the image of the temple and said, ‘What will I get by spoiling the name of the temple? I am a Hindu myself and from Scheduled Castes.
