Pakistani media Dan claimed in its report that the US has canceled Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister Amir Khan Mottaki’s visit to Pakistan. The decision was taken due to travel sanctions from the United Nations Security Council of America (UNSC).
According to the report, the US is troubled by the growing proximity between Afghanistan-Pakistan and the Taliban’s deep relations with China. Mottaki was to go to Islamabad on August 4, but the US stopped the special permission of the UN, without which Mottaki cannot travel abroad.
There are international restrictions on Mukki due to being associated with the Taliban, due to which they need UN approval for traveling abroad. At the same time, Pakistan Foreign Ministry spokesman Shafkat Ali Khan said that- this journey did not happen due to some problems, so it is not right to call it canceled.
His visit was to improve relations between Islamabad and Kabul. Prior to Mottaki, Pakistan Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar went to Kabul.

Since 2001, there has been a ban on Mottaki under the United Nations Taliban ban.
UNSC committee keeps an eye on people associated with Taliban
The UNSC ban committee was formed in 1988. This includes 5 permanent members (China, France, Russia, United Kingdom and America) and 10 temporary members.
It implements steps such as travel restrictions, property seizure and weapons ban on people associated with Taliban. According to the report, the US delayed giving this approval and stopped it completely at the last moment. This canceled Mottaki’s visit to Pakistan.

- The committee implements sanctions such as property freeze, travel restriction, and arms restrictions on individuals and groups associated with the Taliban.

America upset with the relationship between Afghanistan-Pakistan
On the other hand, China and Russia advocate for relaxation of restrictions on the Taliban in this committee, often seen tension in the committee. It is believed that the US has expressed its concerns by stopping this visit.
However, when the US State Ministry was questioned about this, his spokesperson said- we do not comment on rumors. This answer did not make it clear whether the US had deliberately stopped approval or not.

At the same time, Pakistan Foreign Ministry spokesman Shafkat Ali Khan had said on Friday- this journey could not be done due to some problems. We are trying to resolve these issues.
He also made it clear that no official date for Mottaki’s visit was fixed, so it is not right to call it canceled or postponed. Khan hoped that these problems would be resolved soon and the Afghan Foreign Minister would be welcomed in Pakistan.
Why this journey was special
Recent months between Pakistan and Afghanistan have seen an improvement in relations. After the visit of Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on 19 April 2025, the two countries started a high-level talks. This journey of Mottaki was another step in the same direction.

Mukki met Indian Foreign Secretary
The talks between India and the Taliban government began in January after the Taliban captured Afghanistan. On 8 January, there was a meeting between Vikram Misri and Mottaki in Dubai. The Afghan Foreign Minister then appreciated the Indian leadership for joining and supporting the people of Afghanistan.
After this, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of External Affairs Anand Prakash met Mottaki on 28 April. During that time there was a discussion on increasing trade and cooperation between the two countries. Now S Jaishankar and Mottaki have had a phone conversation.

Russia is the first country in the world that recognized the Taliban government
The Taliban power in Afghanistan was officially recognized by Russia on 3 July. Russia became the first country in the world to do so.
The announcement was made in Kabul after a meeting between Afghan Foreign Minister Aamir Khan Mottki and Russian Ambassador Dimitri Jhirnov in Afghanistan.
The Taliban government described Russia’s move as a brave decision. Mottaki said in a video statement released after the meeting,
This courageous decision will be an example for others. Now the process of recognition has started, Russia was at the forefront.

Taliban Foreign Ministry spokesman Zia Ahmed Takal also confirmed that Russia is the first country to give official recognition to Islamic Emirates.
