The Duleep Trophy 2024 season is starting today i.e. 5th September. The first two matches of the tournament will start at 9:30 am. The first match will be played between Team A and Team B in Bengaluru while the second match will be played between Team C and Team D in Anantapur.
Many star cricketers of India will be seen playing in this tournament. These include star players like Ruturaj Gaikwad, KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, Shivam Dubey and Mayank Agarwal. Everyone’s eyes will be on them.
The Indian team has to play a Test series against Bangladesh from September 19. For this reason, many star cricketers would like to get entry into Team India by performing well in the Duleep Trophy.
South Zone is the defending champion of Duleep Trophy. The team defeated West Zone by 75 runs in the final of last season.
These players will be in focus in both matches
In the first match, all eyes will be on Team A captain Shubman Gill along with KL Rahul, Kuldeep Yadav and Avesh Khan. While Sarfaraz, Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal will be seen playing in Team B.
In the second match, Team C captain Rituraj Gaikwad, Sai Sudarshan, Rajat Patidar, while the brilliant Team D players like Shreyas Iyer, Harshit Rana would like to perform well and get a chance in the series against Bangladesh.
KL Rahul would like to return to Team India from Duleep Trophy.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah posted on social media platform X and wrote that the 2024-25 domestic season of the Duleep Trophy is set to begin tomorrow. It is an exciting start as four teams, comprising some of the best long format cricketers in the country, will face each other.
With a busy calendar for Team India, this tournament is a good platform to prepare and take advantage of the opportunities. The red ball format is the most amazing format of the game. Best wishes to all the players selected for the Duleep Trophy.

Ishaan will not play in the first match
It is difficult for Indian team’s wicketkeeper batsman Ishan Kishan to play in the first match of Duleep Trophy. He has been selected in Team D captained by Shreyas Iyer.
Cricket website Cricbuzz has claimed that Ishan has an injury in his left hand. In such a situation, the selectors can choose Sanju Samson in Team D in his place. Samson was not selected in any team. Team D has to play its first match against Team C from September 5. Let us tell you that Ishan was dropped from the central contract after not playing domestic cricket last season.
Duleep Trophy will be played in a new format
The Duleep Trophy will be played in a new format this season. It will not be held in a zonal format like before. The selection panel led by Ajit Agarkar will select the 4 teams India A, India B, India C and India D, which will participate in the tournament.
Four teams will participate in Duleep Trophy
This time the schedule of Duleep Trophy has been divided into four teams. Two matches are being held on 5th September. One of these matches will be between India-A captained by Shubman Gill and India-B led by Abhimanyu Easwaran. The second match will be between India-C captained by Ruturaj Gaikwad and India-D team captained by Shreyas Iyer.
West Zone has won the Duleep Trophy the most number of times
The first edition of the Duleep Trophy, named after Kumar Shri Duleep Singh ji of Nawanagar, was played in 1961-62. In the first tournament, West Zone won the final by 10 wickets over South Zone. Moreover, West Zone is the most successful team in the competition with 19 trophies. To date, 61 editions of the Duleep Trophy have been played.
West Zone won the 2022-23 title by defeating South Zone by 294 runs.
