Three Bangladeshi cattle smugglers were killed in a clash with local villagers in Tripura’s Bidyabil village on Wednesday. The Bangladesh government on Friday condemned this and demanded an impartial investigation from the Indian government.
Bangladesh said that this is a violation of human rights. India should punish the culprits. Every person, no matter which country he belongs to, should be protected.
In response, the Ministry of External Affairs said that these three tried to steal cattle and were killed in the clash. India has appealed to Bangladesh to help build a fence to stop cross-border smuggling.
The entire incident took place 3 km from the border.
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the incident took place in Tripura, about 3 kilometers from the India-Bangladesh border. Three Bangladeshi smugglers tried to steal cattle by crossing the border in Bidyabil village.
They attacked local villagers with iron weapons and knives, killing one villager and injuring others.
The villagers retaliated and caught all three smugglers, during the clash two died on the spot and the third died in the hospital. The bodies of the three have been handed over to Bangladesh and the police have registered a case.

Smugglers attacked villagers with weapons
According to the police, two Indian villagers had gone to work in a rubber plantation in Bidyabil village of Khowai district of Tripura on Wednesday, where they saw three Bangladeshi people hiding.
When the villagers stopped them, the Bangladeshi people attacked them with sharp weapons, injuring both of them.
Later the villagers gathered and caught the smugglers, after which all three Bangladeshis were killed in the clash. The injured villagers are undergoing treatment in the local government hospital.
BSF also seized goods worth ₹8 lakh in South Tripura.
On the other hand, in Karamtilla border area of South Tripura, police and BSF conducted a joint operation and seized valuables worth Rs 8 lakh.
BSF said that they foiled several smuggling attempts in different operations, rescued cattle and seized goods worth lakhs of rupees.
