Cyclone Montha started hitting Machilipatnam coast of Andhra Pradesh from 7.30 pm on Tuesday (landfall process) which is still going on. It has covered an area of ​​300 km.

According to the Meteorological Department, Cyclone Montha is likely to turn into a severe cyclonic storm south of Kakinada. Waves up to 5 meters (16 ft) high can arise in the sea.

Here, 8 southern districts of Odisha, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Kandhamal, Kalahandi and Nabarangpur are most affected by Montha. 11 thousand people have been evacuated here.

52 flights-120 trains canceled

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the center of Cyclone Montha over the Bay of Bengal is currently 90 km from Machilipatnam in Andhra Pradesh, 90 km from Kakinada and 220 km from Visakhapatnam, which is moving at a speed of 15 kmph. The storm will hit Odisha on Wednesday morning.

Senior Scientist of IMD Bhubaneswar, Sanjeev Dwivedi said – The landfall process of Cyclone Montha is still going on. It has been moving north-westwards over the west-central Bay of Bengal at a speed of about 15 km per hour for the last six hours.

Till 9:30 pm on 28 October, the system was present over west-central Bay of Bengal, off Andhra Pradesh and Yanam coasts. It is about 230 km south-west of Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and about 480 km south-west of Gopalpur in Odisha.

NDRF deploys 45 teams for cyclone Montha

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed 45 rescue teams for relief and rescue operations in the wake of Cyclone Montha. This cyclone will mainly affect coastal Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.
