TTV Dhinakaran, general secretary of Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) in Tamil Nadu, met Amit Shah on Saturday. He said that his meeting with Shah was not for seat sharing. In this the election strategy and victory of NDA were discussed.
He told that the decision on seat sharing will be taken in Chennai only. In the next 2-3 days, all the NDA parties will come together and reach a consensus. Dinakaran said that NDA will fight the elections together against the DMK government. He expressed confidence that this time he will win.
An argument broke out between BJP and CPI leaders while filing nominations in Thrissur, Kerala. Both parties clashed over who should be allowed to submit the papers first. CPI cited the token system, while BJP talked about filing nominations within the Muhurta.
Because of this, there was a situation of tension for some time. In the end, CPI candidate submitted the papers first, after that BJP candidate filed his nomination within the Muhurat. Elections in Kerala will be held on 9 April.
NDA’s ally RPI(A) will not contest elections in Bengal.
Ramdas Athawale said that his party will contest elections in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Assam. The party will field its candidates on many seats in these states. RPI(A) itself will not contest elections in West Bengal. There, consideration is being given to supporting BJP, so that votes are not divided.
He said that NDA will try to win in all the states. Elections will be held in April and the results will be declared on May 4.
Rs 75 crore seized in Tamil Nadu
Strictness has been increased before the assembly elections in Tamil Nadu. According to Chief Election Officer Archana Patnaik, around Rs 75 crore has been seized so far. This includes cash, alcohol, drugs and other freebies.
Monitoring teams are deployed across the state to ensure fair elections. The Election Commission has also appointed many observers on 234 seats, so that a close watch can be kept on the expenditure and activities.
