Singer Kumar Sanu’s ex-wife Rita Bhattacharya said that when she received the defamation notice sent by her ex-husband, she was completely shocked.

Speaking to Bombay Times, Rita said, “I am shocked. He is suing the mother of his three sons.”

While it was being said in the reports that Kumar Sanu has asked for a compensation of Rs 30 lakh, Rita claims that in the notice she has received, the amount is much more.

Rita said, “In the paper he has sent me, he is asking for Rs 50 crore. I don’t understand how Sanu thinks that I have so much money. It is very sad.”

Rita said, “I never got a chance to talk to him. Neither to me, nor to my children. He always blocked us. I called, but he never received.”

He told that he had also tried to contact Sanu through his office. “My son was getting married. My in-laws were asking questions. I requested several times. I have all the messages and recordings on my phone.”

Rita also said, “My children are no longer children. My elder son is 37, the second one is 34 and my beloved is 31. It is not their fault in this.”

He said that it is very painful for him to go to court again at this age. “I am 63 years old. The first time he took me to the court, my son Jaan was in my womb. Now again I have to go to the court at this age. After 31 years, I will meet Sanu in the court.”

Rita Bhattacharya and Kumar Sanu have three sons, Jaan Kumar, Sanu Jiko and Jassi.

Kumar Sanu has filed a case in Bombay High Court

Let us tell you that Kumar Sanu had filed a defamation case against his ex-wife Rita Bhattacharya in the Bombay High Court. Sanu had demanded compensation of Rs 30 lakh in the case. Also, there has been a demand to remove those interviews in which allegations have been made against him.

The entire process of divorce of Kumar Sanu and Rita Bhattacharya took place in the year 2001. The divorce process was completed in Bandra Family Court.

According to The Hindu report, the petition was filed on behalf of Sanu through lawyer Sana Raees Khan. It was said that Rita gave interviews to some entertainment platforms. These include platforms like Viral Bhayani and Film Window. In these interviews he made serious allegations against the singer.

Rita had alleged that she was not given food during her pregnancy. The kitchen was closed. Kept away from milk and even medical treatment. He also said that court proceedings were going on at that time. Apart from this, he also accused Sanu of having many affairs and ignoring the family. These interviews were widely shared on social media in September 2025.

Claim for breach of the terms of the divorce agreement

In the petition filed on behalf of Kumar Sanu, it was said that these statements are a violation of the terms of consent agreed at the time of divorce. According to Sanu, on February 9, 2001, it was decided in the Family Court that both the parties would not make any allegations against each other in future.

It was said in the petition that these statements have damaged the singer’s image. This has also caused him mental stress. On September 27, a legal notice was sent to Rita Bhattacharya and related media platforms. The notice said that if the interviews were not removed, criminal action would be taken.

The seriousness of the allegations was also mentioned in the notice. It was said that Sanu was accused of not giving food during pregnancy. His family was described as uncivilized. Questions were also raised on the adoption process.

According to the petition, these statements have damaged the singer’s hard-earned image. This has affected private and professional relationships. There was loss in business related opportunities also.

While there is a demand for damages and removal of content in this civil case, the legal notice warned of criminal action under Section 356 of the Indian Justice Code. The petition also includes a copy of an order of the Delhi High Court dated 15 October 2025. This order is related to a separate case, in which instructions were given to remove content made from AI.
