Modi had a conversation with Trump for about 35 minutes on the phone on 17 June. On August 27, the German newspaper Frankfurter Algemine Tsitung (FAZ) claimed that Modi refused to pick up Trump’s phone 4 times in recent weeks over the tariff controversy.

On 4 September, Trump said that it was necessary to impose tariffs on India in court. He had said that if this does not happen, America will suffer a lot of financial loss.

He argued in the Supreme Court that a tariff was imposed on India to buy Russian oil, so that it would help to end the war. Trump said that the decision of the lower court could make their business talks in trouble in the last 5 months. This may threaten agreements with countries like European Union, Japan and South Korea.
