US President Donald Trump explained on Friday why it is necessary for America to occupy Greenland.

During a meeting held at the White House with top officials of oil and gas companies, he said that if America does not do this, then countries like Russia and China will take over it.

Trump also said that acquiring Greenland is not about buying land, it is about keeping Russia and China away. We cannot see such countries becoming our neighbours.

Trump said- I want an easy deal with Greenland

Trump further said, if America is not able to acquire Greenland in an easy way, then other tough methods will have to be adopted. He said, ‘We will do something on the Greenland issue, whether they like it or not.’

He told reporters, ‘I want the deal to be done in an easy way.’ However, he also expressed his softness towards Denmark and said, ‘Well, I am a big fan of Denmark. He has been very good to me.

When he was asked whether the US was planning to persuade the people of Greenland to join the US by giving them money directly. On this Trump said, ‘Right now I am not talking about money for Greenland. Maybe I will do it later. Trump linked the issue to national security.

Russian and Chinese activities increased near Greenland

Trump cited increased Russian and Chinese naval activities near Greenland, including destroyers and submarines. Trump insisted, “We will not let Russia or China take over Greenland.”

He said he likes both China and Russia. He has good relations with leaders Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping, but he cannot give them Greenland.

Trump cited the presence of Russian and Chinese ships in the area as the reason behind occupying Greenland.

Trump said – we will protect better by becoming the owner

When Trump was asked that America already has a military base there, then what is the need for complete occupation. To this Trump replied that the leases are not enough. “When we own it, we protect it,” he said. The lease is not protected that much. We want complete ownership rights.

Trump also criticized old diplomacy. He said that countries cannot make 100-year deals, rather they are protected only by ownership rights.

Trump has been saying since 2019 that he wants to buy Denmark’s autonomous region Greenland, while both the US and Denmark are members of the NATO military alliance. If Trump moves towards occupying Greenland, it would mean that America would be pitted against its own NATO member states.

Denmark threatened to attack

Denmark responded amid US President Donald Trump’s threat to occupy Greenland. According to CNN report, the Defense Ministry had threatened that if any foreign force attacks their area, the soldiers will immediately retaliate and open fire without waiting for orders.

The rule of attacking without orders is from 1952. Then Denmark had made a rule for its army, according to which in the event of foreign forces attacking the country, the soldiers would have to fight immediately. For this they do not need to take permission from any senior officer.

Trump can give up to Rs 90 lakh to the people of Greenland

It is being considered in the White House of America that by paying 10 thousand (9 lakh rupees) to 1 lakh dollars (90 lakh rupees) per person to the citizens of Greenland, they should be persuaded to separate from Denmark and join America. This scheme is being seen as a ‘business deal’.

Sources told Reuters that if this plan is implemented, considering Greenland’s population of about 57 thousand, its total cost could be around 5 to 6 billion dollars.

According to officials, the proposal for money to connect Greenland with the United States is only one option. Apart from this, options like diplomatic agreements and even use of military force have also been considered.
