Trump on Monday night talked about imposing 25% tariffs on countries doing business with Iran.
US President Donald Trump has announced to impose 25% tariff on countries doing business with Iran. Trump posted on Truth Social on Monday night that any country that trades with Iran will be imposed a 25% tariff on trade with the US.
He said that this decision will come into effect with immediate effect. However, no official document regarding this tariff has been issued by the White House.
This decision has been taken at a time when anti-government protests are continuing in Iran. About 600 people have been killed in these demonstrations.
America has already imposed strict economic sanctions on Iran. According to Reuters report, the major countries doing business with Iran include China, United Arab Emirates and India. If tariffs are implemented, these countries’ trade with the US may be affected.

According to World Bank data, Iran did trade with 147 countries in 2022. (symbolic picture)

Trump told that
Iran has approached America and proposed talks. Talks are going on to schedule the meeting. However, considering the situation, they may have to act first, as the number of deaths is increasing and arrests are ongoing.

Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Trump also said that Iran wants to negotiate. They are tired of being beaten by America.
Iran warned America
Amid the demonstrations, Iran has warned America that if it is attacked, it will target American soldiers and Israel.
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baghar Ghalibaf said on Sunday that if America attacks, all American military bases, ships and Israelis present in the area will be our targets. The statement was made during a live session of Parliament, where MPs were raising slogans of ‘Death to America’.
Praising Iran’s security agencies, Kalibaf said that they have acted forcefully in the situation. Warned the protesters that those arrested would be dealt with in the strictest manner and would be given severe punishment.
Resentment among common people increased due to inflation in Iran
GenZ is in anger across the country. The reason for this has been economic crisis. The Iranian currency rial fell to about 1.45 million per US dollar in December 2025, an all-time low.
The value of the rial has almost halved since the beginning of the year. Inflation has reached its peak here. The prices of food items have increased by 72% and the prices of medicines have increased by 50%.
Apart from this, the government’s proposal to increase taxes by 62% in the budget of 2026 has created huge resentment among the common people.
