US President Donald Trump met Japan’s new Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on Tuesday. During this, Trump described Japan as America’s strongest ally. Also announced all possible help to Japan.
Takaichi recently became the first female Prime Minister of Japan. The two met at Akasaka Palace in Tokyo. Both the leaders shook hands during the meeting.
The issues of trade and security were discussed in the meeting between the two. Takaichi announced that Japan would gift 250 cherry trees to the United States next year to mark its 250th anniversary. Will also nominate Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize next year.
Trump arrived in Japan on Monday, where he met Emperor Naruhito. Trump will visit the Yokosuka naval base with Takaichi this afternoon. The American aircraft carrier USS George Washington is stationed here.

Trump reached Akasaka Palace in Tokyo, the capital of Japan on Monday.

Trump held a bilateral meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi at Akasaka Palace.

Trump received former Japanese PM Abe’s golf club as a gift
Trump and Takaichi also remembered late Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. During the meeting, Takaichi talked about gifting Abe’s golf club to Trump.
Japan can invest $550 billion in America. This includes shipbuilding, American soybeans, gas and purchases of pickup trucks.
It is believed that this step can reduce the pressure on Trump to increase defense spending from Japan.
Trump will then meet with Japanese business leaders and leave for South Korea on Wednesday, where he will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping and try to reach an agreement on the trade dispute.
Trump wants Japan to increase its security spending
Trump wants Japan to spend more money on its military. Takaichi had previously said that Japan would increase its defense budget to 2% of the country’s GDP. This decision is a major change in Japan’s security policy.
Takaichi did not say much about business. She told that she will try to reduce the impact of American tariffs. According to an agreement signed in July, Japan will give 15% tariff to America and invest $550 billion there. Takaichi said she would look at the deal carefully, especially the terms of the investment.
Japan’s purchase of gas from Russia will also be discussed in today’s meeting. America asked Japan to stop it, but Japan refused to do so citing its own interests. Takaichi is considered a student of former PM Shinzo Abe. Abe and Trump had a very good relationship. This may be beneficial for Takaichi.
Trump will meet Chinese President in South Korea
After Japan, Trump will reach South Korea. Where he will participate in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit. Here he will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Trump wants to make a trade deal with China to end the trade war. The agreement includes the purchase of American soybeans, lifting of restrictions on rare earth minerals and controls on raw materials for drugs such as fentanyl.
The US had imposed a 10% tariff on China in February 2025, which increased to 145% by April. Trump feels that this deal will further strengthen his image as a “great dealmaker”.
Before Trump reached Malaysia, senior US and Chinese officials held trade talks in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday. The world’s two largest economies are trying to stop a trade war and get Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping to meet at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in South Korea next week.
The conversation took place after Trump threatened to impose 100% taxes on Chinese goods from November 1 and tighten other trade rules. This threat came after China banned the export of certain minerals and magnets.
