The longest speech in the history of the United Nations was given by Cuban leader Fidel Castro in 1960, which lasted for about 269 minutes (about 4.5 hours). Palestinian leader Yasar Arafat gave an one and a half hour speech in 1974. At the same time, in 2009, former Libya President Muammar Gaddafi also spoke for more than 1.5 hours.
