जिंदगी के लिए नहीं, मौत के लिए AIIMS पहुंचा हरीश… अब बस इंतजार की घड़ी!

The story of Harish Rana of Ghaziabad is in discussion these days. After living in a coma-like state for years, he is now being put through the process of euthanasia. 11 years ago, the life of Harish and his family was completely happy. Harish’s dream was to become an engineer. To fulfill this dream, he took admission in Chandigarh University in 2013. Engineering studies had started and Harish lived in a PG in Mohali near the university. His room was on the fourth floor.

One day after returning from college, Harish was standing on the balcony of his PG and suddenly fell down from there. He was immediately taken to PGI Chandigarh. There were serious head injuries. He was breathing, but he was unconscious.

Since this case was of an accident, Mohali police registered an FIR. At that time, Harish’s family had alleged that their son was deliberately thrown down from the balcony by some boys.

There was no improvement in Harish’s condition in Chandigarh PGI. The doctors had thrown up their hands. But the parents did not lose courage and brought Harish from PGI Chandigarh to AIIMS, Delhi. Here too, treatment continued for a long time, but there was no change in the situation.

AIIMS doctors also replied. After this, Harish was admitted to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Delhi, then to Lok Nayak Jaiprakash Narayan Hospital and finally to Fortis Hospital. But there was no benefit anywhere.

Even sold the house for Harish

The family risked everything for Harish’s treatment. His father Ashok Rana, who worked in a catering service company, was running the household on a nominal salary. There was no other source of income and younger son Ashish was also very young at that time. Despite this, he spent his entire savings for the treatment of his son.

Even sold the house in Delhi, but there was no improvement in Harish’s condition. When every hospital and doctor responded, the parents were forced to bring him home and hired a nurse to take care of him.

The expenses of the nurse were also huge. Out of Ashok Rana’s salary of Rs 28 thousand, Rs 27 thousand had to be paid to the nurse every month. It became very difficult to manage treatment and household expenses simultaneously. Then the time came when Ashok Rana retired from the job. The younger son also did not get a job, so the nurse had to be removed and the parents themselves started taking care of Harish.

Time passed but health did not improve

Time passed, but there was no improvement in Harish’s health. Months and years passed and he continued lying in bed. During this entire time he did not even change his side. There was a urine bag and food pipe attached to the bed, with the help of which his mother used to feed him daily.

The passing of time turned Harish from a human being into a skeleton. Only his breathing was moving, and these breaths gave proof of his being alive. Whereas all the hospitals and doctors had already given up treatment.

Harish remained lying on the bed like this for about 10 years. His condition did not change at all during these years, but the lives of the remaining three members of the family had completely changed. Meanwhile, one day Harish’s mother made a wish and started praying for the death of her son.

The mother, who had been praying for her son’s life every day since the accident, was now praying for his death, but even death seemed adamant.

Harish’s mother wanted death to be his fate. The mother, who had been praying for her child’s life every day since the accident, was now praying for her son’s death all the time, but death is also stubborn.

After medicine, even prayer remained ineffective. Then Harish’s mother took a decision which hardly any mother can take. The family approached the Delhi High Court with this decision, and now, after living in a coma-like state for several years, Harish is being put through the process of euthanasia with the court’s permission.
