Germany has accused Russia of not being ready to make any compromise to end the Ukraine war.
On Wednesday, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius told parliament that Russia has not responded positively to the new peace plan drawn up for Ukraine.
He said that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s statements do not show any desire for peace. Boris said,
It is clear from Putin’s reaction that he does not want to make any kind of compromise.
Boris said that for this reason Germany will increase its defense budget. It will also increase military aid to Ukraine.
Boris also said that Germany needs to find new partners for itself with the changing times.
Russia may attack NATO by 2029
Germany’s Foreign Minister Johann Wedfull warned on Tuesday that Russia could attack any NATO country in the next four years. He said this at the Berlin Foreign Policy Forum.
Wedfull said that according to German intelligence agencies, Russia is preparing for war against NATO by 2029. He says that Russia’s ambitions are not limited to Ukraine only. It has significantly increased its military strength and weapons production in the last few years.
He said that Russia has adapted its economy and society to war to a great extent. Also, Russia is recruiting more troops than necessary. Almost every month a new division is being created.
Wedfull has warned that these new Russian military units could target the European Union and NATO.
NATO Chief said – Russia is a threat even after peace agreement
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has said that even if a peace agreement is reached in the Ukraine war, Russia will remain a long-term threat to Europe. He gave this statement in an interview given to the Spanish newspaper El Pais in Brussels.
Rutte also said that no country in Europe should think that it is safe. He said that Russian missiles could reach any European city within minutes.
Rutte also praised Trump’s diplomatic efforts on the Ukraine issue. He said the new peace proposal is a good start for further talks.
He said that the pressure put by Trump on NATO countries to increase defense spending was absolutely necessary. He also advised NATO member country Spain to increase its defense budget in the coming time.
