Dharmendra made Bhojpuri boy a power star
On a stage, Pawan Singh had reminisced about his relationship and days of struggle with Hindi cinema’s ‘He-Man’ Dharmendra.
He had told how at one time he was struggling to make his mark in the industry, but fate brought him directly under the shadow of the veteran actor whom he had been watching on screen since childhood and considered like a god.
In this journey of conflict, struggle and stardom, Dharmendra not only gave him a chance but also taught him such words, which later became a permanent part of his career and nature.
According to Pawan, his first meeting on the set of a Bhojpuri film changed his thinking. He says that that day he understood that being a big star does not just mean glamour, but also staying connected to the ground.

Pawan Singh had told that, when I was new to the industry, my only wish was to work with my hero on the big screen someday. I had been watching Dharmendra ji in films since childhood, but never thought that one day I would be able to share the same frame with him.
Pawan Singh had told that whenever he was nervous while speaking the dialogue, he would remember Dharmendra.

I was signed for a Bhojpuri film and got the news that Dharmendra ji is also working in it. As soon as I heard this, I couldn’t believe it. I was on the set on the first day of shooting, but I couldn’t muster the courage to go near his vanity van. There was fear inside and also a strange hesitation of not knowing what to say.
At the same time someone came and said – “Dharam ji is calling.” As soon as I heard this, my steps faltered. Heart beat was fast, hands were wet with sweat. Somehow I gathered courage and went inside the vanity van. He smiled and said, “Come son, sit.” At that moment it felt as if an elder was hugging me.
We talked about the shoot, characters and films. I told them that I have come from struggle, and how big this opportunity is for me. He said very simply that keep working hard, even if you become a star, walk with your head bowed, talk to people lovingly, because this will make you a horse for the long race.

Had he forgotten the dialogue he would have said – Don’t take tension son.
The biggest miracle for me was that he not only gave advice, but also actually gave me a chance. That project gave a new turn to my career. When I was giving scenes on the set and Dharmendra ji was standing right in front of the camera, many times I would forget the dialogues and just keep looking at him. He would laugh and say, “Don’t take tension son, speak comfortably.”
Even today, when I look back, I feel that if a big star like Dharmendra ji had not supported me at that time, perhaps my journey would have been different. For me, he is not just a superstar, he is a guru who gave me my first big platform and taught me that even after reaching heights, one should not be small.
This is the reason why I tell this story in every interview and on every stage, so that people can know what is the place of Dharmendra ji in the life of a boy like me.
