The FIR of Chennai’s Anna University rape case has been leaked. Due to this the identity of the victim became public. On Thursday evening, Chennai Police Commissioner A Arun gave information about the rape case.
In this he responded to the allegations of leaking of FIR. He admitted that the identity of the victim has become public. This happened due to a technical glitch.
Arun said that the automatic locking process got delayed during the conversion of FIR from IPC to BNS. If the FIR could not be locked, it got leaked due to technical glitch. We will soon file a case against those responsible for this lapse.
On the other hand, BJP State President Annamalai protested against the state government regarding this incident on Friday morning. He flogged himself for the demonstration. It is shameful for him to make the identity of the victim public.
Actually, at 8 pm on 23rd December, a second year engineering student was raped in Anna University. Raj Bhavan and IIT Madras are located near the university campus, which falls in the high-security zone. The police examined the CCTV footage installed on the campus and identified the accused Gnanashekaran and arrested him.

- Annamalai said that the police is protecting the accused because the accused is associated with DMK. He has also released several photographs of the accused along with Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin and senior DMK leaders.
More than 15 cases including rape already registered against the accused Police said that the accused sells biryani on the footpath outside Gnanasekharan University campus. A case of raping a girl is also registered against him in 2011.
Apart from this, 15 criminal cases including robbery are registered against him. Police suspect that the accused may have objectionable videos of many other people in his mobile, which are being investigated.
NCW took cognizance of the matter The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken cognizance of this matter. NCW issued a statement saying – The accused is a habitual criminal and the police has not been able to take action against him in previous cases. Because of this carelessness he got the courage to rape. NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar has asked the DGP of Tamil Nadu to provide free treatment and security to the victim. He has directed to take action against the officials who made the identity of the victim public.
The University’s Complaint Committee also started investigation After the incident the university management also came into action. Officials said that CCTV cameras have been installed in the campus and security officers have been appointed. The University’s Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) is also investigating. Students Federation of India (SFI) and All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) demonstrated in front of the university demanding action.

BJP leaders and workers protested demanding the resignation of CM MK Stalin. Palaniswami, the state’s main opposition party All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) general secretary, said it was shameful.
