On Tuesday in Bikaner, Rajasthan, booth level officer was seen helping voters in filling the form for SIR.
Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists is going on in 12 states and union territories of the country. The Election Commission in West Bengal on Tuesday said officials will be held accountable if any lapses are found during SIR.
According to an official, Deputy Election Commissioner Gyanesh Bharti made this statement while chairing the review meetings in Kolkata. Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Aggarwal was also present in these meetings. Till 6 pm on November 18, 7.63 crore enumeration forms have been distributed in Bengal. A total of 1.09 crore forms have been digitalised.
On the other hand, one Booth Level Officer (BLO) each in Kerala, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh has committed suicide. A BLO in West Bengal has threatened to commit suicide. On Tuesday, an Anganwadi worker tried to commit suicide in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu.
Their families and other officials have alleged excessive work pressure. Many BLOs allege that long working hours and the deadline till December have made them tired. BLO has boycotted in many states. The Commission is now facing questions regarding the workload and accountability of officers.
Least form submission in Kerala, highest form submission in Rajasthan

The Election Commission said on Tuesday that out of 51 crore voters in 9 states and 3 union territories, more than 50.25 crore SIR forms have been distributed. After filling the form, people submit it back. After this the work of digitization takes place. The least number of forms have returned for digitization so far in Kerala, the most in Rajasthan.
After giving the form and taking it back, then there is difficulty in filling it online.
- Madhya Pradesh: Problem in app After distributing the calculation sheet, it has to be fed in the app, but the app is facing technical problems. Due to this the work is slow. The biggest pressure is that they have to deliver the counting sheets to 5.5 crore voters. Every voter has to be met thrice. The form has to be filled and returned. There is a struggle in this.
- Rajasthan: Pressure to report within two hours with target The BLO of the state says that every day they have to visit the homes of 200 voters, fill the forms and digitize them i.e. upload them online. In such a situation, they are working 18-18 hours. The tension is also increasing because the ERO has to send reports every two hours from 8 am to 10 pm. Female BLOs are facing more problems due to family and children.
- Chhattisgarh: Teacher in dilemma due to double duty Many BLOs have duty 12-13 km away. There is a problem due to it being a new area. There are many BLO teachers. It is their responsibility to complete the course in school. The school did not relieve. Due to this they are in dilemma.
- Gujarat: Working smart In Ahmedabad, BLO distributed the forms of 100 members in 30 minutes through the announcement system of a society. It would have taken 4 hours to go door to door. The duty of the female BLO was in the labor colony. They are at work during the day. So I was called to school in the evening. All work was done at one place.
