A Japanese warship passed through the Taiwan Strait between Taiwan and China for the first time on Wednesday. The Japanese warship, heading west from the East China Sea, covered a distance of 180 km in 10 hours. BBC gave this information quoting Japanese media.
Along with this warship named JS Sazanami, warships from Australia and New Zealand were also present. Naval ships of the three countries were going for exercises in the South China Sea. Actually, China claims both Taiwan and Taiwan Strait as its part. In such a situation, Japan did not take its ships out from between the two countries till now in order not to anger the Dragon.
China’s state media Global Times reported that the Chinese military was keeping an eye on the ships of other countries while they were passing through the Taiwan Strait. Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary said on Thursday, “There is an atmosphere of crisis in the country after repeated violations of Japan’s airspace by the Chinese military.”

China sent its spy plane into Japanese airspace In fact, just last week, a Chinese aircraft carrier passed between two Japanese islands near Taiwan. In August, a Chinese spy plane entered Japan’s airspace. The Japanese government called it a violation of its country’s sovereignty.
During the Quad meeting held in America on 21 September, Japan, Australia, India and America had agreed to increase cooperation for maritime security in the South China Sea.
There has been a long standing dispute between China and Japan. Taro Aso visited India in 2006 as Japan’s Deputy Prime Minister. At that time, he said in a statement that for more than 1500 years, there has been no such incident in history when our relations with China have been good.
Dispute over the Senkaku Islands between China and Japan The war between Japan and China began in 1930 and ended with nuclear attacks on Japanese cities in 1945. Even after the war ended, there has been a long-standing dispute between the two countries over the Senkaku Islands.
Actually, China calls these islands as its part. China says that Japan had taken these islands from China in 1895 and they should have been returned to China after the end of the Second World War.
Oil reserves near the Senkaku Islands Japan alleges that China suddenly staked its claim on the area after a United Nations report in 1969 revealed the existence of oil reserves under the sea. In fact, there is a dense population of fish as well as oil reserves in the sea around the disputed island.
Even when the treaty to normalize relations was signed between the two countries in 1972, there was no agreement on this issue. In 2012, Japan fueled this issue by nationalizing the Senkaku Islands.
There were violent protests all over China. After this, Chinese coast guard and fishing boats started patrolling these areas and Japanese water border started getting violated repeatedly.
