The Coast Guard has deployed four ships to extinguish the fire in the cargo ship.
The fire that broke out on a merchant navy ship off the coast of Goa on July 19 has been brought under control. An Indian Coast Guard official said that there were 22 crew members on the ship, of which one has died. At present, no one’s life is in danger.
The MV Maersk Frankfurt ship, which was going from Mundra in Gujarat to Colombo in Sri Lanka with 1,154 containers, caught fire 102 nautical miles off the coast of Goa. It was carrying dangerous cargo like benzene and sodium cyanate.
Indian Coast Guard Deputy Inspector General Manoj Bhatia said that dry chemical powder was dropped on the ship with the help of helicopters on Friday, which helped in controlling the fire. The fire did not spread to the part of the ship where the dangerous cargo was kept.

Work to extinguish the fire is still going on
Manoj Bhatia said that the firefighting operation is going on, although the fire has been brought under control. The fire is still burning in some areas. Four ships are helping in extinguishing the fire and helicopters are also carrying out continuous sorties.
He said that ICG is keeping this ship away from the coast. State government agencies have been told to be prepared for any kind of emergency due to oil pollution. We have warned all the concerned states so that disaster contingency plan can be implemented in case of pollution spreading.

The container ship had left from Gujarat. It was to reach Colombo, Sri Lanka on 21 July.
A fire broke out on the ship due to a short circuit
According to reports, the explosion was caused by a fire caused by a short circuit on the ship. The fire spread rapidly on the deck. Due to which the containers exploded. The ship’s crew consisted of 22 members. These included 17 from the Philippines, 2 from Ukraine, and one each from Russia and Montenegro.
