At that time about 19 families were present in the building. Within no time the flames became so intense that the entire building was filled with smoke. Although it was fortunate that no one died and everyone was taken out safely, but the houses and belongings of the families were burnt to ashes.
Who is the firework Jitendra?
Jitendra Sharma, who set fire to the five-storey building built on plot number 188 in Shakti Khand-2 of Indirapuram, lives in the same plot number 197. He has his own house there. According to neighbours, he works in the sales department of a UK based IT company. He is survived by his wife and a daughter. People nearby say that Jitendra is often ready to fight and die. He doesn’t even talk to people directly.
Victim Deepak Tyagi, who lived in the burning building, told ‘Aaj Tak’ that not only Jitendra and Rajiv are responsible for this fatal incident, but Jitendra’s brother Vikas Sharma, who lives in Pandav Nagar, Delhi, is also responsible. He was present there with both of them at the time of the incident. According to Deepak Tyagi, Rajiv is his neighbour. He lived in C4 flat in their building. Both are absconding since the incident. Deepak alleges that now the police is reluctant to come into this matter.
First fire broke out in Deepak Tyagi’s house
Local resident Deepak Tyagi told that the fire first broke out in his flat. According to him, “A firecracker hit my inverter and a fire broke out from there. A man named Jitendra lives nearby who was bursting firecrackers under our building. Another person from the building, Rajeev, was also with him.” Deepak told that despite his warning, both of them continued bursting fireworks, after which the accident occurred shortly after.

Deepak Tyagi further told that RWA President Ashok Tyagi had forbidden Jitendra and Rajiv from bursting crackers. But instead both of them started arguing and quarreling with him. Meanwhile, a firecracker went up and hit the inverter kept in the balcony, causing a fire. Deepak himself tried to extinguish the fire, but the flames were so fierce that within a few moments the entire house burnt down and the fire spread to the entire building.
Eyewitnesses narrated their ordeal
Eyewitnesses who saw the accident said that the fire was so strong that within a few minutes the entire building was engulfed in flames. Smoke had filled the upper floors and people got scared and started running out to save their lives. This result of Diwali fireworks was not worth forgetting for anyone. Shekhar, owner of the Royal Park Hotel located in front of the building, said that his staff also helped in extinguishing the fire. They achieved initial control of the fire with the help of the hotel’s fire hydrant system and ABC, CO2 cylinder. During this time, some of his employees also suffered minor injuries. Shekhar told that if his staff had not helped in time, perhaps the loss would have been even bigger.
