Monsoon spoiled the schedule of Chardham, but the courage of the pilgrims did not break.
Registration of pilgrims and conduct of Chardham Yatra was stopped from September 1 to 5 due to bad weather and continuous rain. It was restarted on 6 September. Heavy rains, cloud bursts and landslides during the monsoon season severely hamper the pilgrimage.
The important stop of Dharali on the way to Gangotri Dham was badly damaged by natural disasters. Due to damaged roads, the pilgrimage to Gangotri and Yamunotri had to be temporarily postponed. Even after the rains stopped, resuming the journey was a big challenge.
However, administrative teams worked on a war footing to restore normalcy and reopen travel routes. Pilgrimages to both Gangotri and Yamunotri have resumed with strict security measures.
Officials are urging devotees to remain cautious. Pilgrims are being repeatedly advised to avoid traveling in bad weather and take shelter in safe places if they are en route.
Snowfall continues in Kedarnath for 2 days
The Shri Badrinath Kedarnath Temple Committee, along with the Rudraprayag district administration and police, on Wednesday urged pilgrims to bring warm clothes, medicines and other essential health items. Kedarnath Temple Committee member Vineet Chandra Posti said that it has been snowing in Kedarnath Dham for the last two days.
