A woman in New Zealand has been sentenced to 2 months in jail. The woman has been found guilty of feeding her pet dog too much food. Due to the excess food, the dog gained a lot of weight, which led to its death.

According to a Newsweek report, this dog named Nuggi was found by the police when they were searching a woman’s house in Oakland. Nuggi lived there with many dogs. However, he looked different from all others because he weighed the most.

Nuggi was barely able to walk due to his 54 kg weight. Seeing his condition, the police took Nuggi from there and handed him over to an animal care organization SPCA.

While he was at the SPCA, he lost almost 9kg in just 2 months but died suddenly.

Due to being overweight, Niggy was suffering from many diseases.

The organization said that after Niggy’s postmortem, it was found that he died of liver hemorrhage. Apart from this, he was suffering from many other diseases which were caused by excess weight.

Todd Westwood, an official of SPCA, said that Nuggi was the fattest animal they had ever seen. Expressing sorrow over his overweight, Westwood said that just as we feel pity on seeing a hungry animal, in the same way we felt pity on seeing Nuggi who was a victim of overeating.

According to the SPCA report, Nuggi was fed 10 pieces of chicken along with dry fruits every day.

His skin had thickened so much that his heartbeat could not be heard through a stethoscope. The area around his elbows and stomach had become very thick.

Niggy’s owner never took him out for a walk or made him exercise. Due to this, his weight increased so much that he had to stop 3 times to walk even 10 meters.

Now the Auckland court has sentenced the woman to 2 months in jail. Apart from this, she has been ordered to pay 1,222 New Zealand dollars (60 thousand rupees) as compensation. Apart from this, she has also been banned from keeping dogs for 1 year.
