He came to Canada 3 years ago and was living in Edmonton for the last 5 months. He worked in construction there and was dreaming of starting his own business. He was shot at around 2:50 pm on March 14, 2026 (Saturday). The incident occurred on Highway 2, south of Edmonton. Birinder was visiting Banff for the first time with two of his childhood friends. Police said that Birinder was driving his Honda Civic car with his friends. Then a white pickup truck came next to their car. The two people riding the truck first gestured friendship towards Birinder. When Birinder made the same gesture in response, the truck drivers rolled down their windows and fired at Birinder without any provocation. Death occurred due to bullet injury in the neck. The bullet hit Birinder’s neck. His friends regained control of the car, stopped it on the roadside and called the police for help, but Birinder died on the spot due to excessive bleeding. According to the police and Birinder’s friends, they do not know why the attack was carried out. His friends believe that this could be due to racism or hatred, because he had no quarrel with anyone or any incident like road rage. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) is investigating the matter. They have asked for dashcam footage from people to identify the suspicious pickup truck and the two people traveling in it. Birinder was the only son of his parents. His parents are in Punjab and had not seen their son for the last 3 years. Friends had created a GoFundMe page to send Birindra’s mortal remains to India, through which the necessary funds have been raised so that his parents can see their son’s face for the last time.
