Wrestler Ravi Kumar Dahiya, who won the silver medal in the Tokyo Olympics, is now moving towards a new chapter of life. This wrestler from Nahri village of Sonipat will get engaged to Richa of Bilbilan village of the same district on 29th November. The wedding ceremony will take place on 30th November.

Traditional rituals will start with the Haldi ceremony on Monday, 24th November. Only selected members of both the families will attend the engagement ceremony. Most of the guests invited for the wedding will be wrestlers from India and abroad. Desi ghee dishes are being prepared for these guests. There will be 100 percent vegetarian food.
Relationship fixed on 26th October Ravi Dahiya’s relationship was fixed with Richa of Bilbilan village on 26 October. Richa is from a farmer family and is running a private school herself. After graduation, she is studying MA English.
Due to her simple nature and dedication towards studies, Richa is well known in her village and society. There is deep enthusiasm about this relationship in both the families and everyone is considering this pair as an “absolutely perfect couple”.

Grandmother’s nephew got the marriage done, 16 members came to meet the demand. Ravi’s grandmother Savitri Devi tells that the marriage was arranged by her nephew Jagdish (resident of Amli village of Gohana). After the consent of both the families, on October 26, 16 members of Ravi’s family reached Bilbilan village and completed the ritual of filling Richa’s maang.
Grandmother Savitri is very excited about her grandson’s marriage. She says, “Ravi has been very polite, straightforward and hardworking since childhood… I will dance vigorously in my grandson’s wedding.” According to him, Ravi’s grandfather passed away 18 years ago, so now all the responsibilities of the house are being handled by the grandmother and the family.

Forbidden before marriage… mother and grandmother persuaded Mother Urmila told that when Ravi was asked before having a relationship, he clearly refused to marry. But, mother and grandmother explained that – “Son, now the age has come…”. After this Ravi did not protest.
Ravi is 25 years old, while Richa is two years younger than him. The family considers their couple to be very perfect. Quiet and shy Ravi is also doing wedding shopping quietly these days. When the family asked which dress she bought, she smiled and said, “You can see it on the wedding day.”

Family background and Ravi’s early wrestling journey Ravi’s family includes grandmother Savitri, father Rakesh, mother Urmila, younger brother Pankaj and his wife Poonam, uncles Anil and Rajesh. Mother Urmila tells that at the age of just 8 years, Ravi was in fourth class. During this time, he started mud wrestling in Hansraj Akhara of the village.
Later he went to Chhatrasal Stadium in Delhi and has been practicing there till date. Ravi’s life has revolved around sports. He is able to come home only on Holi-Diwali. Despite the injury suffered during the Olympics and the subsequent operation, his dedication never diminished.

Mother Urmila told that when Ravi was asked before having a relationship, he clearly refused to marry. But, on the persuasion of mother and grandmother, she said yes.
Wrestling tradition of Nahri village, high heritage of Chhatrasal Earlier this village was known by the name of Olympian Mahavir Singh (1980, 1984), later Amit Dahiya (2012) also raised the name of the village. Ravi’s father Rakesh sent him to Satpal wrestler and coach Virendra at the age of 10. Olympic medal winners like Sushil Kumar and Yogeshwar Dutt have emerged from Chhatrasal Stadium and now Ravi’s name is also highlighted in the same queue.
Created history by winning silver in Tokyo Olympics In 2021 Tokyo Olympics, Ravi Dahiya won the silver medal in the 57 kg category. In the final he lost 4-7 to Javur Yuguev of the Russian Olympic Committee. Performed brilliantly by defeating Reza Atrinagharchini of Iran in the semi-finals and Nurislam of Kazakhstan in the quarter-finals. At one time, despite being behind by 7 points in the semi-finals, the counterattack he made has been recorded in the history of Indian wrestling.
Pure desi ghee food for 8000 guests Food arrangements are being made for around 8000 people in Ravi Dahiya’s wedding. The embroidery will be put up four days in advance and catering has been ordered from Narela (Delhi). The family has given special instructions that the food for the guests coming from far away places and especially for the wrestlers, should be 100% pure. Ravi’s aunt says- “Food will be cooked only in pure desi ghee.” The wedding procession will reach Bilbilan village with around 500–600 people.
