India will be eyeing 4 gold medals on Wednesday in the Paris Olympics. Today 5 Indians will participate in the final event. Wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s final match will be against American wrestler Sarah Ann Hildebrandt in the women’s 50 kg weight category.

On the other hand, weightlifter Mirabai Chanu will participate in the medal event of women’s 49 kg weight category, middle distance runner Avinash Sable in 3000 meter hurdles and long distance runner Priyanka-Suraj pair in mixed marathon walk relay. India will participate in 4 medal events on the 12th day of the ongoing Olympic Games in Paris.

Vinesh will compete with Tokyo bronze medalist
Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat will face Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist Sarah Ann Hildebrandt of America in the final. Sixth seeded Hildebrandt has won 4 medals in the World Championships. 30-year-old Hildebrandt is also a former Pan American Games champion.

Indian wrestler Phogat is a gold medalist in 3 Commonwealth Games. She won gold in the 2018 Asian Games. She could not participate in the 2023 Asian Games due to injury. She has a World Championship bronze to her name. But both her medals have come in women’s 53 kg.

Gold is expected from Chanu, she had won silver in Tokyo
The country will be expecting gold from Indian weightlifter Mirabai Chanu. Mirabai opened India’s account by winning a medal on the very first day of the Tokyo Olympics. Here her eyes will be on gold. She won silver by lifting 202 kg (87 kg and 115 kg).

Mirabai has made a comeback after recovering from a hip injury. National coach Vijay Sharma says that she is fully fit. Mirabai’s best performance after the last Olympics came in the Commonwealth Games 2022, where she won gold by lifting 201 kg (88 kg and 113 kg). This year she also won silver in the World Championship.

Sable won gold in Asiad, eyes on Olympic medal
Apart from Vinesh and Mirabai, India’s eyes will be on middle distance runner Avinash Sable. Avinash won a gold medal for India in the Asian Games last year. Hence, there will be expectations of a medal from him in the Olympic Games as well.

Sable has performed his best in the Paris Diamond League last month. He clocked 8:09.91 minutes. Avinash’s previous best was 8:11.20 minutes.
