The Indian team has lost the ODI series on the Australia tour. Australia won one-sidedly in the first two matches of the three matches. In both the ODIs, Team India was badly beaten in batting, bowling and fielding. There were five major reasons behind India’s poor performance. Let us know all of them one by one.
1. Losing the toss in both the matches
In both Perth and Adelaide, the conditions were such that the team fielding first would have the advantage, but Indian captain Shubman Gill lost both the tosses. India had to bat first both times and Team India could not score enough in either match.
Indian innings was stopped four times due to rain in Perth. Due to this the team could never get momentum. In the beginning the ball was seaming and swinging a lot. This also increased the problem. It rained in Adelaide also till a day before the match. The pitch had been under cover for a long time and was quite damp. Australian fast bowlers took advantage of this.
Team India has not been able to win the toss in the last 17 ODI matches.
2. Very weak game of top-3 batsmen
ODI cricket is called the game of top-3 batsmen. If one of the top three batsmen scores a century, the team’s big score is almost certain, but India’s top-3 could not do anything amazing in both the matches. Captain Shubhman Ginn scored 10 runs in Perth and 9 runs in Adelaide. Virat Kohli was out on zero both times. Rohit Sharma batted well in Adelaide, but he also failed in Perth. That is, in the two matches, only one half century came in the total of 6 innings of India’s top-3 batsmen. In two matches combined, all three players could score only 100 runs.
3. Don’t give a chance to Kuldeep Yadav
The Indian think tank focused more on batting and because of this the bowling proved to be weak. Wrist spinners are more successful than finger spinners on Australian pitches. Still, Kuldeep Yadav remained sitting on the bench in both the matches. Akshar Patel and Washington Sundar bowled well, but they could not prove to be very effective.
4. Gill’s ineffective captaincy
Not only did Shubman Gill fail as a batsman, he also proved ineffective as a captain. In both the matches, the Indian team could not play with the enthusiasm and enthusiasm that was seen under the captaincy of Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma. Gill’s field placement and bowling changes were also not effective.
5. Poor performance by fast bowlers
India’s fast bowlers could not perform well even in favorable conditions. Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana together could take only 5 wickets in 2 matches. Mohammad Siraj did not get a single wicket in 2 matches. On the other hand, fast bowlers took 11 wickets for Australia.
