Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan may contest the election for the post of Chancellor of Oxford University from Adiala Jail. PTI leader Imran Khan’s advisor Syed Zulfi Bukhari has given this information to the British newspaper The Telegraph.

This year, there is an election for Chancellor in Oxford University. For the first time in the 800-year history of Oxford, voting for Chancellor’s election will be held online. Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Theresa May and Boris Johnson will also be seen putting forth their candidature in this election.

Imran’s advisor Syed Zulfi Bukhari said that it is the public’s demand that Imran Khan contest the elections. He has also started preparations for the elections. He will participate in the online election process from jail itself.

Imran’s green signal is yet to be received
Bukhari is Imran Khan’s foreign affairs advisor. He said that Imran Khan has not yet given the green signal. It will be publicly announced only after his consent and after that the signature campaign will be started.

Imran Khan is an alumnus of Oxford. He obtained a degree in economics from Keble College, Oxford University in 1972. He has served as Chancellor of Bradford University from 2005 to 2014.

Oxford Chancellor resigned in March
Oxford University Chancellor Lord Chris Patten announced his resignation in February this year. 80-year-old Patten was Chancellor for 21 years. He took office in February 2003.

Lord Patten previously served as the 28th and last British Governor of Hong Kong. He was chosen as Chancellor following the death of Roy Jenkins. He is the first Chancellor not to die in office since the Duke of Wellington in the 19th century.

Lord Patten takes up the post in March 2023. He is only the fourth Chancellor of Oxford in the last 90 years.

Imran’s chances of winning are less
More than 2.5 lakh current and former students will vote in the election of Chancellor of Oxford University. Graduates of this university get the opportunity to become Chancellor. According to the new rules, whoever becomes the new Chancellor will get a tenure of 10 years.

Registration is required to contest the elections which will be done by August 18. The date of the election has not been announced yet. According to The Telegram, Imran Khan’s chances of winning are low because apart from the three former Prime Ministers of Britain, there are many other big names in the race.
