Delhi High Court on Wednesday made music composer AR The order of the temporary restriction given by the single-judge against Rahman was canceled. The order was given in the copyright violation of the song ‘Veera Raja Veera’ from the 2023 Tamil film ‘Ponyin Selvan 2’.

According to the bar and bench, Rahman filed an appeal against this order. Justices C. Hari Shankar and Om Prakash Shukla of the Division Bench passed the order on the appeal. The court said, “We have accepted the appeal. We have canceled the order of a single-judge. This order is only based on the principal.”

However, the court made it clear that they have not yet taken any decision on the issue of infringement.

In fact, in the year 2023, a petition was filed in the Delhi High Court by Indian classical singer Fayyaz Wasifuddin Dagar, who was awarded the Padma Shri. He alleged that the song ‘Veera Raja Veera’ from the film ‘Ponanian Selvan 2’ is a copy of ‘Shiva Stuti’ composed by his father Nasir Fayajuddin Dagar and uncle Zaheeruddin Dagar.

Fayaz Wasifuddin Dagar was awarded the Padma Shri Award in 2010.

However, Rahman denied the allegations. He had said that ‘Shiva Stuti’ is part of the traditional Dhrupad style and it comes in the public domain. He also told that ‘Veera Raja Veera’ is a fundamental creation, which has 227 different layers and is different from Indian classical music.

Single-Judge ordered in favor of Dagar on 25 April

On 25 April, single-judge gave a temporary order in favor of Dagar. The court directed Rahman and the producers to give credit to Dagar Brothers on all online platforms. Along with this, an order was also given to deposit 2 lakh rupees and deposit 2 crore rupees.

Rahman appealed against this order. On 6 May, the Division Bench postponed the temporary ban. The order imposed on the cost was also stopped, but the instructions to deposit Rs 2 crore were continued. The court said that this decision is no opinion on the main issue of the appeal.

‘Ponanian Selvan 2’ is a Tamil film directed by Mani Ratnam. It featured Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Karthi in the lead roles. The film is based on the story of Chola dynasty. Music AR Rahman has given.
