A luxury ship named Bayesian sank on Monday morning near Sicily Island in Italy. There were 22 people on board the 184 feet long ship. There were 10 crew members and 12 passengers. The passengers were American, British and Canadian.

According to the New York Times, one person has died and 6 people are missing. The body that has been found is that of the ship’s cook. Britain’s famous software businessman Mike Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter Hannah are also among the missing.

Businessman Lynch’s wife Angela Backares has been rescued. She was the owner of the sunken ship Bayesian. Apart from this, Morgan Stanley International President Jonathan Bloomer and his wife are also aboard this ship.

The Bayesian ship was completed in 2008. Its owner was also on board at the time of the accident.

15 people were rescued, including a 1 year old girl
An Italian coastguard official told the BBC that a storm hit at 5am and the ship sank. The ship was anchored about 18km from Sicily’s capital Palermo.

It is not yet known how the ship sank. Many crew members are currently admitted in the hospital. Some information will be available only after talking to them. However, some reports say that due to the winds, one of the masts of the boat broke, due to which the balance of the ship got disturbed and it overturned.

The coastguard official said that there was another Dutch ship near the ship which helped save the lives of 15 people. Those who were rescued alive also include a 1-year-old girl who has been admitted to the hospital along with her parents.

The mast of the 184 feet long Bayesian ship was 246 meters. When this ship was built in 2008, it was the world’s tallest mast. The ship sank due to the breaking of this mast.

Mike Lynch was called Britain’s Bill Gates, HP filed a case
Missing Mike Lynch (59) was long called Britain’s Bill Gates. He founded a software company Autonomy Corporation in 1996. It used to analyze the data of companies. His company prospered a lot. Due to this, he was also made the economic advisor of British Prime Minister David Cameron.

Seeing the success of Autonomy, in 2011, computer manufacturing company HP bought it for $11.7 billion. This was Europe’s biggest technology deal at that time. However, soon after, HP accused him of cheating. HP alleged that Lynch had sold the company to them for more than the required price. Lynch should return $5 billion.

HP appealed for Lynch’s extradition to the US. This case lasted for 12 years. He had to go to the US in May 2023. He was under house arrest in San Francisco jail for 13 months. Lynch argued that HP liked his company and bought it. He neither hatched any conspiracy nor committed any fraud for this.

Mike Lynch’s wife was also on the plane with him. She survived the accident safely.

Acquitted in June 2024, still owner of 500 million property
Lynch was acquitted of all 15 charges in June 2024. If he had been found guilty of fraud, he would have spent 25 years in a US prison. However, he suffered a lot due to being stuck in the court case for 12 years.

After being released from jail, Lynch said that he was trapped because of the extradition treaty between the US and Britain. He said that because of this law, an American lawyer has more power than the British police. Even if he wants, he cannot defend a British citizen in a fake case.

According to the Sunday Times Rich List of 2004, Lynch’s wealth was estimated to be around 500 million pounds (5.4 thousand crores rupees).

Lynch’s partner Chamberlain also died
Just hours after Lynch’s disappearance, it was revealed that his trial partner Stephen Chamberlain had died in a car accident in Cambridgeshire. He died on Saturday but the news came on Monday. Both Lynch and Chamberlain were acquitted by the court last month.

Chamberlain, like Lynch, was charged with 15 counts.
