Israel stopped 13 ships going to Gaza carrying relief material on Wednesday night. These were part of Sumud Floralla (ship fleet) with 47 ships. This fleet was trying to help in the Gaza by breaking the blockade of Israel.

In this raid, more than 150 activists from 37 countries were detained. These include Swedish environmental activist Gita Thangberg.

Israeli’s Foreign Ministry said that all ships have been stopped safely and passengers are being sent to the Israeli port. The ministry also confirmed that Gita Thangberg and his companions were safe and healthy.

30 ships are still moving towards Gaza

Flotila spokespersons say the campaign was launched to provide humanitarian aid to Gaza and break Israel’s blockade.

Spokesperson Saif Abukekekes said that 13 ships have been stopped so far, but around 30 ships are still in the sea and are on the way to reach Gaza.

He said that at 8:30 pm (according to the time of Gaza) some ships were stopped by the Israeli force and captured. After this, contact with many ships also broke.

Turkey described this action as terrorism and said that it is a serious violation of international law. South Africa appealed to ensure restraint and ensure safety of unarmed people involved in the fleet.

Greece and Italy asked Israel to ensure the safety of the people involved in Flotila.

Italy’s Prime Minister Georgia Meloni appealed to stop the journey from Flotila, saying that this could harm Gaza peace talks.

Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said that these activists are no threat to Israel and hoped that Israel would not be in danger.
