Israel on Tuesday attacked Qatar’s capital, targeting top Hamas leaders.

The voices of several loud blasts were heard on Tuesday in Doha, the capital of Qatar. The Israeli army announced that it had carried out an air attack by targeting senior Hamas leaders. Several media reports claimed that the attack was done especially by targeting Hamas Chief Khalil al-Hayya.

When this attack took place, Hamas leaders were discussing the ceasefire proposal of America. The Israeli Army and Security Agency said that the attack was carried out in a very accurate manner on the Hamas leaders who had been running the activities of the organization for a long time. According to the army, these leaders were directly responsible for the attack on Israel on 7 October 2023.

Speaking to the Associated Press, an Israeli official confirmed that the attack took place in Doha, the capital of Qatar. However, it is not clear yet whether anyone was injured or not. Meanwhile, Israeli PM Netanyahu also said that Israel takes ‘full responsibility’ of this attack.

After the death of Yahya Sinwar, Khalil al-Hayya is running the organization.

Hamas leaders in Qatar

The attack took place at a time when Iyal Jamir, General Staff chief of the Israeli Army, recently said that Hamas leaders present abroad would also be targeted. He said on 31 August that “Most of Hamas’s leadership is abroad, and we will also reach them.”

Qatar has long been the whereabouts of Hamas’s exiled leaders and have been playing the role of an intermediary between Israel and Palestine. The attack on Gaza about the release of the ceasefire and the release of those held hostage on 7 October can make him more complicated.

Qatar criticized the Israeli attack

After the attack, Qatar strongly criticized Israel. Foreign Ministry spokesman Majid al-Ansari called it a “cowardly attack” at Hamas’s political headquarters and said that it was a violation of all international laws and norms.

On the other hand, Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich praised the action. He said that terrorists will not get exemption from Israel anywhere in the world. While writing on X, he appreciated the “correct decisions and accurate targets” of IDF and Shin Bet and said that “terrorists will never get any discount from Israel’s long hands”.
