Israeli security minister Itamar Ben-Gawir prayed at the campus of Al-Aksa Mosque in Jerusalem on Sunday. A Jewish organization released a video of it, in which Gwir was seen walking and praying with some people in the mosque campus.
Al-Aksa is the third holiest mosque in Islam after Mecca and Medina. According to the rules, Jews can go here, but cannot pray.
Seeing the controversy on social media, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that these rules have not changed nor will they change.
This visit of Ben-Gwir took place on the day of ‘Tisha Baw’, on this day Jews fast in memory of the destruction of ancient temples.
Gwir said- prayed for the release of hostages
Ben-Gwir said that he prayed for Israel’s victory and release of the hostages against Hamas in Gaza. He also reiterated the demand to fully capture Gaza.
The organization taking care of this campus said that 1,250 people including Ben-Gawir went there and some prayed, shouted slogans and danced.
At the same time, Nabil Abu Rudain, spokesperson of Palestinian President Mahmood Abbas, condemned the tour and described it as “crossing all limits”. He demanded the intervention from the international community, especially America and stopping the Gaza war.
Campus responsibility with Jordan’s organization
The Al-Aksa Mosque is located in Yerusalam. A religious organization in Jordan handles this mosque campus. In 1967, there was an agreement between Jordan and Israel after Israel Jung.
It was decided that Jordan’s Islamic Waqf Trust would control on matters within the Al-Aksa Mosque and external security would handle Israel.
In such a situation, the police of Israel enters the mosque for security. This causes situations like war.
The agreement between Jordan and Israel also agreed that non-Muslims would be allowed inside the mosque, but they would not be allowed to pray there.

Ben-Gawir is one of the most controversial leaders of Israel. He belongs to the Religious Gionist, the right -wing party of Israel. Ben-Gwir fundamentalist Jewish leaders consider the ideology of calling Mair.
Ben-Gawir considers Mir to be a god. His Kahnist ideology believes that non -Jews should not have the right to vote in Israel.
Ben-Gwir became a member of the Israeli Parliament for the first time in 2021. They have always been against having peace talks with Palestinians. They want to give legal apology to the Israeli soldiers who have been found guilty of shooting Palestinians.
Ben-Gwir became the National Security Minister of Israel on 25 November 2022. Later, he resigned in January 2025 in protest against the Gaza ceasefire agreement, but was again appointed as a minister in March 2025.
