Violent protests have intensified against increasing the salary of MPs in many parts of the country including Indonesia’s capital Jakarta. The protesters set fire to the regional parliament of Makasar city on Friday night.

Recently, an Indonesian police vehicle crushed a motorcycle delivery woy, killing him. After this, the situation worsened.

In view of the fierce demonstrations, Indonesia President Prabovo Subyanto canceled his visit to China on Saturday. He was to go to the Victory Day celebrations in China on 3 September, which is held on the 80th anniversary of the end of the second world war.

A spokesman for Prabovo said that the President wants to keep an eye on the situation of the country himself and wants to manage these conditions better. So he apologized to the Chinese government that he would not be able to go on his call.

7 people detained in case of driver’s death

So far 3 people have died and 5 people were injured in these violent protests. People have intensified protests against government officials and facilities they get.

Seven officers have been detained in the driver’s death case. More than 200 people have been injured in these demonstrations. President Prabovo Subianto has appealed to the people to maintain peace. He ordered an inquiry into the case and met the family of the deceased driver.

Pulin accused of human rights violation

Indonesia’s Legal Aid Association (YLBHI) has strongly condemned the police action. According to YLBHI, more than 600 students were detained in Jakarta, many of which were kept in police stations without any charge.

The organization has accused the police of cruelty and human rights violations. Some protesters claimed that the police not only fired rubber bullets, but also used ammunition at some places.
